While its fun for most people to enjoy a family-friendly cruise, there are times you just want to get away on a romantic break or an opportunity to relax and unwind. Adult-only cruises may be just what you need to guarantee some peace and quiet while being surrounded by stylish facilities and activities geared up towards grown-ups.

Why Choose an Adult-only Cruise?

There are many adult-only cruises available, whether you want a mini break in Europe or a sunny Mediterranean cruise. Apart from the fact that there are no children on board, there are many reasons why people choose these cruises. While it’s a great way for couples to relax and reconnect, it is also great for singles wanting to pamper themselves and regroup or perhaps even meet a possible future partner.

Valentines Day

Some adult-only cruise ships look pretty similar to the larger family-orientated cruises but some of them are a bit smaller and have a less manic ambiance.  These ships are all about relaxing and taking it easy during the day, while revving things up with some fun at the casino and dancing lessons followed by movies, theatrical performances and dance parties at night.  It is equally good for couples who have chosen not to have kids than for parents who are lucky enough to find some time away.

Adult-only cruise lines and ships

Many cruise lines have adult-only cruise ships, or particular itineraries that are only available to adults.  Here is a list of our favourites:

P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises have three true adult-only cruise ships, the two very large ones: Oriana and Arcadia and the smaller Adonia.  They have regular trips going to the Canary Islands, Italy, Croatia, Spain and more.  This British run line is a great choice for a kid-free experience.

Regent Seven Seas

If you’re looking for a fantastic adult-only all-inclusive cruise, Regent Seven Seas is a great option.  Their all-inclusive price includes all drinks including in-room mini bars, all tips, several shore excursions everywhere you stop over, free shuttles into town, all speciality and main dining, one unlimited Wi-Fi account per suite, as well as flight tickets and airport transfers. Their four ships are on the smaller size, being able to accommodate between 490 and 750 passengers. Note that a lot of their itineraries do include children but that there will be less children aboard longer or more exotic cruises, so its best to check ahead.

Marella Cruises

They have several adult-only itineraries, their favourites being on their newest band biggest ship, the Marella Discovery. Launched in 2016, the ship comes complete with Broadway-style shows, a jogging track, an indoor pool and solarium.

Their adult only cruises to Asia and Dubrovnik are doing so well, that they will be launching their Marella Explorer 2 next year, which will only be dedicated to adults, which will offer you more flexibility and choice.  The ship is said to meet the needs of all adult groups, couples and friends by having a much more adult ambience as well as a bigger Veranda on board.  The Veranda is a premium sun worshipping spot with brand new facilities.  The ship will have 907 cabins, of which forty percent will have balconies.

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines

If you’re dreaming of an exciting adventure, a romantic getaway to enjoy with a loved one, or simply some hard-earned time away from it all, Fred Olsen’s adult only cruises might be just what you’re looking for.

Aboard their comfortable and less crowded smaller-sized beautifully designed cruise ships, you can enjoy the personal, attentive service, friendly, home-from-home atmosphere, delicious food and fantastic entertainment. Here you can enjoy your sail to stunning ports of call in the company of likeminded guests.

Viking Cruises

While Viking has always focused on adults for their cruises, they have now made it official by having an 18-year age restriction on all bookings for their river cruises.  If you enjoy river cruises, you will love Viking, as they do an excursion at every port, have great Wi-Fi, and offer fantastic sophisticated meals on their on-board restaurants.  They also have a self-service laundry facility as well as offering free beer, wine and soda with their lunches and dinners. Just be aware that tips and drinks had outside of meal times will be charged extra. They have three ships which can carry up to 930 guests and all their cabins feature private balconies.

Cruises for Older Adults

Saga Cruises

British run Saga cruises take the adult only theme a bit further by only taking passengers over fifty on board.  Fares include all meals with no extra surcharges, onboard gratuities, Wi-Fi, wine with lunch and dinner, transfers to/from the ship and shuttles into town from port. The line has two ships, the slightly smaller Saga Pearl II and the larger 720-passenger ship, the Saga Sapphire.

Grand Circle Cruise Line

They also offer small-ship cruise options to a variety of destinations to a 50-plus crowd.
