COPENHAGEN

Copenhagen truly is a fascinating city. It has viking history, royalty, culture and incredible architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. Copenhagen has the world’s oldest monarchy which dates back to 1417 when King Erik VII took up permanent residence. Members of the royal family still live in the city today in the Amalienborg Palace. Copenhagen is synonymous with Hans Christian Anderson the writer of much-loved stories including ‘The Princess and the Pea’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’. You’ll find tributes to the writer around the city including statues and the Hans Christian Andersen museum which guides you through several tableaux dedicated to some of some of his most famous fairytales. Whilst in the city, head for Stroget which is where 5 of the main streets join. Pistolstraede is where you’ll find amazing art galleries, shopping and restaurants; Fiolstraede is the place to go if you’re an avid book fan, Straedet is packed with antique stores and around Nyhavn you’ll find a variety of dining venues to stop for a bite to eat.

Famous for its quaint charm and eclectic architecture, Copenhagen is one of the most popular stops along many Scandinavian cruise packages. There is so much to see and do in this city - from exploring its boutique shops, to sampling the local cuisine of cinnabons and sweet pastries. If you want some extra time to explore Copenhagen, then Cruise Nation offer Smart Package deals. Some of these packages let you combine your flight, hotel, and cruise costs into one bundle - with the extra advantage of enjoying complimentary stay(s) in a hotel.

STOCKHOLM

Made up of 14 islands, Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and Scandinavia’s largest city. The most popular place to visit in Stockholm is the old town - Gamla Stan. Each building is painted a different, colourful shade and the overall effect is simply delightful. Another must-visit in Stockholm is the Vasa Museum where you can learn more about naval history. There’s ancient full-size ships on display here and even if you’re not an avid fan of naval history, you’ll still find them remarkable to see. To appreciate some of Stockholm’s many green spaces, a visit to the Hagaparken is a good idea. In the park you’ll find amazing views, the chinese pavilion, the echo temple, the turkish kiosk and the burial ground of the Swedish Royal family.

Stockholm is a city with an unrivalled reputation for culture and eco-awareness. If you’re in the mood for culture and exquisite architectural beauty, then don’t miss out on Gamla Stan - the city’s famous Old Town. The self-described ‘living breathing museum’ is filled with colourful buildings, attractive shopfronts, and enticing eateries. For this reason, it is a favourite amongst cruise tourists - and it’s one of our favourites too. Alternatively, if you fancy a stroll in the sun, then Stockholm has a number of lovely parks - including the Royal National City Park. Despite being located in the midst of the country’s capital, this urban forest is also home to numerous deer, rare birds, and foxes.

GOTHENBURG

Gothenburg has a beautiful mix of modern structures and historical buildings that give the cityscape a unique charm. If you venture to the Haga district you’ll be rewarded with picturesque wooden houses lining pedestrian streets. The main boulevard in Gothenburg is Kungsportsavenyn. The boulevard stretches all the way from Götaplatsen where you’ll find the museum of art to Kungsportsplatsen which is the main square at the centre of the old city. It’s marked with a statue of Charles IX. It might also interest you to know that Gothenburg was listed by Forbes as the 12th most inventive city in the world, in fact it’s where Volvo was founded.
