The Leaning Tower welcomes visitors in to the Piazza dei Miracoli, a wonderful walled area which is home to Pisa’s finest architectural sights. The Piazza itself is one of Italy’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is a must when visiting Pisa. The Leaning Tower itself as an architectural masterpiece, even if gravity has had more than the desired affect and it sits at a ten degree. Built in 1990 and standing at 60 metres tall it can be seen from the surrounding streets, sticking out like a sore thumb.

In the Piazza dei Miracoli alongside the Leaning Tower is the Duomo di Pisa, the Cathedral of Pisa. This wonderful cathedral is home to artwork from Giovanni Pisano. His wonderful Pergamo depicts nine scenes from the New Testament and you can see this inside the cathedral. This wonderful part of Pisa will take up the majority of your day and with the variety of architecture in the Piazza, make sure to see it all.

The Piazza dei Miracoli is an integral part of Pisa but make sure to venture into the city centre. Many people only visit the Piazza when they visit but Pisa city centre is a hub of activity. Home to one of the top-ranking universities in the world, Pisa boasts a bustling city centre soaked in hip cafes and cool bars. The students define this city, but instead of being surrounded by them you’ll find yourself conversing with the locals instead.

With so much history found at every turn, Pisa is a great location for delving deep into Italian culture.
