The Alcazaba
La Alcazaba is Europe's largest fortress consists of three compounds. The first compound is the largest of the three and was designed as a military camp. The area has now been transformed into a large garden filled with a variety of flowers and plants. La Alcazaba can be easily reached by climbing narrow streets and from the top of its walls, you take in spectacular views of the city.
Lazzaretto
This pentagonal shaped building was built in 1732 to protect military authorities from disease, today the building is used for various cultural exhibits in the city.
Ancona Cathedral
Overlooking the city's port Ancona Cathedral offers amazing views of Ancona and the Adriatic coast. The Cathedral is built on the site of an ancient temple dedicated to Venus.
Ancona's Arches
Erected in 115 BC by Apollodorus of Damascus in honour of the Roman Emperor Trajan. Over 18 metres high, it stands on a podium approached by a wide flight of steps and flanked by pairs of fluted Corinthian columns on pedestals.
Episcopal Palace
With its beautiful architecture the Episcopal Palace is worth a visit, its most famous for being the place where Pope Pius II died in 1464.
