It is nearly impossible to picture just how pure the sparking, clear water is that surrounds Dubrovnik. The old city juts out on a small peninsula into the cool Adriatic Sea and this is an integral part of its charm.

Onofrio's Fountain
Onofrio's Fountain was built in the 15th-century to provide drinking water to the towns citizens. It was designed by architect Onofrio Giodano della Cava to bring water from the nearby River Dubrovačka which is located around 7 miles away.
Today, the fountain serves as an ideal meeting spot, or simply a place to fill up your bottle on a hot day. You'll often find musicians performing in the area so it's a great place to stop and enjoy the atmosphere.

Back when it was built in the 15th-century, it used to feature a wooden drawbridge which was pulled up at night to prevent unwelcome visitors from entering the city. The drawbridge was replace long ago with a stroned bridge which leads through the gates. This area can get very crowded with tourists, so try getting there as early as you can in the morning.

City Bell Tower
The tower features two bronze statues knows as zelenci, which means "Green Men". Their green colour is a result of the copper degradation over the years. Locally, these men are known as Maro and Baro and depict a striking of the large bell. The bell is the only original section of the tower and it weighs a massive 2 tonnes!
