Pharaoh’s Palace is Carnival Spirit’s main show lounge, a three-level theatre spanning Decks 2, 3 and 4. Egyptian-inspired hieroglyphics, towering stone figures and King Tutankhamun-style sarcophagi ensure the setting is not exactly subtle.

Take your seat for Playlist Productions, where singers and dancers turn familiar songs into full musical shows. Check the HUB App onboard for that day’s show times, then swap the swimwear for something dry and keep your shoes on.

Versailles Lounge is a cabaret-style spot on Riviera Deck 1, reached via the stairs inside Pharaoh's Palace. By day, you can join an exercise class. By night, it becomes the home of the Punchliner Comedy Club, with rotating stand-up comedians.

Late Punchliner performances are for guests aged 18 and over. There is a bar at the rear serving standard drinks, including themed cocktails such as the Witty Margarita.

Feeling lucky? Louis XIV Casino sits midship on Promenade Deck 2, with slots, blackjack, roulette and poker all in the mix. Pull up a chair, have a flutter, and see whether the cards are feeling generous.

The bar just off the casino floor serves cocktails, beer and wine, with live music adding to the atmosphere. You must be 18 or over to enter and play, so check the HUB App on board for opening hours.

Cloud 9 Spa is your quiet corner for massages, facials and body treatments, with sauna and locker-room facilities on hand. You will find it at the forward end of Deck 9, close to the gym.

Treatments carry an extra charge, and walk-ins depend on availability, so reserve through the spa. Arrive 15 minutes early, then let the sea schedule wait for you.

Give your sea day a little momentum at the two deck Fitness Centre, set across Decks 9 and 10 in the forward spa complex. Most of the equipment faces the ocean, so even the treadmill comes with a rather better view than usual.

You can choose from weights, bikes, treadmills and a rowing machine, then cool off in the gym's unusually placed central hot tub. The centre is for guests aged 18 and over, and is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Yoga, Pilates and cycling classes carry a fee.

A proper splash-about on the aft Sports Deck, WaterWorks gives you waterslides, sprays and a 150-gallon Power Drencher tipping bucket. Take on the 214-foot Twister, an enclosed spiral that finishes on Deck 10, or brave Green Thunder and its 34-foot drop.

There are mini racer slides for younger guests too. Slides generally run from 9am until sunset, but check the HUB App for that day’s opening times before you make a beeline for the queue.

A playground for your inner child, without any actual children. Serenity is the adults-only retreat at the aft of Deck 9, with a pool, whirlpool, hammocks and padded loungers for properly unhurried sea days.

You must be 21 or over to enter. Settle into a clamshell chair with your book, or call at Serenity Bar for a Serenity Sparkling Sangría, made with sparkling wine, elderflower liqueur and fresh lime juice.

On Deck 9, beside the Lido pool, Seaside Theatre turns an ordinary evening into cinema under the stars. Settle into a poolside lounger, or watch from the pool itself, as the large LED screen rolls recent blockbuster films.

It is not all films either. Sporting events and shows can make the programme, so check Carnival Fun Times onboard for the day’s listings. The screen is included, while popcorn and drinks carry an extra charge.

Young sailors have their own fun sorted at Camp Ocean on Deck 10, with ocean-themed games, crafts, films and more for ages 2 to 11. Three separate rooms keep activities age appropriate, while tweens and teens have Circle C and Club O2 spaces of their own.

Daytime and evening sessions are complimentary, and every child must be registered before joining. Do it before you sail, as capacity can be limited. On US sailings, Night Owls adds late-night snacks and a slumber-party feel for ages 6 months to 11 years, at an extra charge.
