Four pools mean you can match your swim to your mood. Head to the lively Lido Pool on Lido Deck, where water jets and a whirlpool sit between it and the neighbouring Riviera Pool.

For a quieter dip, try the adults-only Serenity Pool on Sun Deck, complete with two whirlpool spas. Poolside snacks include freshly made stone-baked pizza, which is exactly the sort of post-swim planning you can get behind.

Take your competitive streak up to the Sun Deck, Deck 17, where Deck Games keeps things pleasantly informal. Try shuffleboard, deck quoits, archery or giant chess, with sea air providing the commentary.

You can play at your own pace or join an organised tournament. Suitable for all ages and abilities, it is a fine excuse to prove that giant chess requires very serious tactical thinking.

Whether you are polishing your salsa or giving line dancing a proper go, Britannia’s dance instructors are on hand on every cruise. Ballroom instruction takes place in The Crystal Room on Deck 7, behind the Headliners Theatre.

Classes are first come, first served, so arrive early if you fancy a place on the floor. Check Horizon, the daily onboard programme, for times and locations.

On the Horizon is a sensational live theatre show, bringing your cruise programme to life with song, dance and plenty of stage-worthy energy.

You can catch it in Britannia’s Headliners Theatre, at the front of the ship across Decks 6 and 7. A proper evening out, minus the faff of getting home afterwards.

Take your seat for a theatrical Big Top style circus show led by the enigmatic Mr Tickerton. It is a properly theatrical evening, with all the curious spectacle you would hope for from a clockwork circus.

You will find it in the two deck high Headliners Theatre, towards the front of the ship on Decks 7 and 8. Arrive with time to settle in and let the show do the rest.

At the forward end of Deck 5, Oasis Spa is where your to do list can have a proper lie down. Choose a massage, facial, beauty treatment or salon service, then let the sea days become properly restorative.

For a slower pace, the thermal suite has a hydrotherapy pool, six heated stone loungers and aromatic showers. Reserve treatments through My P&O Cruises until three days before your holiday, then pack your swimming costume for the thermal areas.

At the forward end of Deck 5, the Thermal Suite is your warm-water answer to doing absolutely nothing in rather good style. Move between the hydrotherapy pool, aromatic showers, mild sauna, Finnish sauna and steam room, then claim a heated stone lounger.

Bring your swimming costume, it is required throughout the suite. Access is booked once you are on board, so check the spa information early and make time for a proper switch-off.

Forward on Deck 5, beyond reception, The Oasis Spa is where you swap the to do list for a massage, facial, acupuncture session or a trip to the salon. There are 16 treatment rooms, so a little time for yourself is very much on the agenda.

Whether you fancy a proper workout or just want to justify dessert later, head aft on Deck 17. You will find treadmills, exercise bikes and a weight-training area, with cardio machines facing floor-to-ceiling windows for sea views that beat your usual gym wall.

The adjoining studio hosts group fitness classes, with a selection included in your fare. The jogging track is on the same level, handy if fresh air is more your speed.

Keep your routine moving, or give something new a go, in Britannia’s dedicated Fitness Studio. Expert trainers lead a varied programme of group classes, so you can swap the sun lounger for a session whenever the mood strikes.

The large studio is on Deck 17 towards the aft. Wear proper fitness kit and training shoes, though yoga, meditation and Pilates are best enjoyed barefoot.

The Photo Gallery on Deck 7 is where you can browse photographs taken at Photo Moments around the ship. Touchscreens make it simple to find your pictures and choose the ones worth taking home.
