MSC Dubai Cruises: What I’d Love to Experience

Some holidays are all about switching off, finding a sun lounger and doing absolutely nothing for a week. And there’s nothing wrong with that! But if I’m travelling halfway around the world, I’d quite like a little adventure thrown in too! So, here is what to expect on an MSC Dubai cruise.
That’s one of the reasons an MSC cruise around Dubai and the United Arab Emirates really catches my eye. It’s a part of the world where futuristic skylines sit alongside traditional markets, vast deserts meet beautiful coastlines and every destination seems to offer something completely different.
I’d love the opportunity to explore Dubai, discover the culture of Abu Dhabi and visit some of the other fascinating destinations around the Arabian Gulf, all while enjoying the comforts of a cruise ship.
So, what would make it onto my must-see list? Quite a lot, as it turns out!
Dubai: A City That Doesn’t Do Things by Halves
So… what to expect on an MSC Dubai cruise?
If there’s one destination that immediately springs to mind when thinking about an Arabian Gulf cruise, it’s Dubai.
The city has become famous for its incredible skyline, luxury hotels and attractions that seem to get bigger and bolder every year. I’d certainly want to make time for the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Standing at the top and looking out across the city, coastline and desert must be quite something.
Then there’s Dubai Mall. With more than just a few shops to browse, it’s home to an aquarium, restaurants and plenty of attractions. I suspect I’d need a little longer than planned!
But I’d also want to see the other side of Dubai. The traditional Gold and Spice Souks sound like a brilliant way to experience the city’s trading heritage, with colourful stalls, aromatic spices and plenty of opportunities to pick up something unusual.
A trip across Dubai Creek on a traditional abra boat would be high on my list too. It’s a reminder that beneath all the modern architecture, Dubai has a fascinating history.
And then there’s the desert. A 4×4 adventure across the dunes, followed by sunset views, sounds like a pretty spectacular way to spend an afternoon.
Abu Dhabi: Culture, Architecture and a Touch of Luxury
Dubai might steal plenty of the headlines, but I’d definitely want to explore Abu Dhabi as well.
The first place on my list would be the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Its white marble architecture, enormous domes and intricate detailing look extraordinary. It’s also an important place of worship, so visitors need to respect the dress code and local customs.
I’d also be interested in visiting Louvre Abu Dhabi. Its distinctive dome creates a fascinating play of light and shade, while the museum brings together artwork and objects from different cultures and periods.
For something a little less cultural, there’s always Yas Island. Home to Ferrari World, it’s an obvious attraction for anyone who enjoys a bit of speed and excitement. I’m not sure I’d be first in the queue for every rollercoaster, but I’d certainly be tempted!
What appeals to me about Abu Dhabi is the contrast. You can spend the morning discovering incredible architecture and history, then enjoy the afternoon by the water or exploring the city’s modern attractions.
Sir Bani Yas Island: A Different Side of the UAE
One destination that really stands out to me is Sir Bani Yas Island.
It’s a world away from the skyscrapers of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The island is known for its wildlife reserve, natural landscapes and beautiful beaches, offering a different perspective on the United Arab Emirates.
I’d be particularly interested in a wildlife safari. The island is home to animals including Arabian oryx and gazelles, and the chance to see them in a protected natural environment sounds like a memorable experience.
There are also opportunities for kayaking, beach activities and simply enjoying the coastline. After a busy day exploring a city, a little time by the sea wouldn’t go amiss.
MSC also describes its island beach experience as including food, drinks and activities, although exactly what’s available will depend on the sailing and arrangements in place.
Beyond Dubai: Discovering the Arabian Gulf
Another reason I’d consider an MSC cruise in this region is the opportunity to visit destinations beyond the UAE.
Depending on the itinerary, there may be opportunities to explore places such as:
- Doha, Qatar: A fascinating mix of modern architecture, museums and traditional markets. Souq Waqif would be somewhere I’d love to explore.
- Muscat, Oman: A beautiful coastal capital with traditional markets, impressive architecture and dramatic mountain scenery.
- Bahrain: An island destination with a mix of modern city life, cultural attractions and historic sites.
- Khasab, Oman: Known for its rugged mountains and spectacular fjord-like scenery. A boat trip here would be high on my wish list.
Not every MSC sailing visits all these destinations, of course. That’s why I’d always look closely at the itinerary before booking. The ports you visit can make a big difference to the kind of holiday you experience.
What’s It Like to Cruise the Arabian Gulf with MSC?
For me, one of the biggest attractions of a cruise is having the opportunity to explore several destinations without constantly changing hotels.
You unpack once, settle into your cabin and let the ship take you from one destination to the next. There’s also plenty to enjoy onboard between port visits, from restaurants and entertainment to swimming pools and places to relax.
MSC Cruises offers a range of onboard experiences, with the exact facilities depending on the ship. I’d be looking at the dining options, entertainment, cabin choices and what’s included in the fare before deciding which sailing suits me best.
I’d also pay attention to the length of time in each port. Dubai and Abu Dhabi both have plenty to see, so having enough time ashore would be important.
And if I could combine a few days exploring the region with some relaxing time at sea, even better!
When Would I Choose to Visit Dubai and the UAE?

I’d be looking towards the cooler months when planning an Arabian Gulf cruise.
The period from November to March is generally a popular time to visit, with more comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and outdoor activities than the intense summer heat.
It’s worth remembering that the weather can still be warm, particularly during the day, so lightweight clothing, comfortable footwear, sun protection and plenty of water would be on my packing list.
I’d also check the dates carefully and compare the available itineraries. A cruise that gives me enough time to explore Dubai, Abu Dhabi and some of the surrounding destinations would be particularly appealing.
Is an MSC Dubai Cruise Worth Considering?
If you’re looking for something a little different from the usual Mediterranean or Caribbean cruise, I’d certainly put Dubai and the UAE on the shortlist.
There’s a brilliant mix of experiences here. One day you’re exploring traditional markets, the next you’re looking up at incredible skyscrapers, discovering cultural landmarks or heading out into the desert.
And that’s before you factor in the possibility of visiting Qatar, Oman or Bahrain as part of a wider Arabian Gulf itinerary.
For me, that’s the real attraction: a holiday that combines sightseeing, culture, adventure and relaxation, without having to organise a different hotel every few days.
If you’re tempted by the idea, take a look at our MSC Dazzling Dubai and UAE cruise offers to explore the available options.
You can also browse our wider range of MSC Cruises deals or discover more options across our cruise holiday deals.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi, desert adventures and a little Arabian Gulf magic. Now that’s a holiday I’d be rather happy to get on board with!
I hope you enjoyed my blog and it helped you with what to expect on an MSC Dubai cruise.
