Majestic Princess: What’s It Really Like On Board?

Majestic Princess: What’s It Really Like On Board?

There are cruise ships, and then there are cruise ships where you could probably spend the entire holiday exploring without getting bored. Majestic Princess certainly looks like it belongs in the second category. Read on about my Majestic Princess onboard experience.

Part of the Princess Cruises fleet, Majestic Princess combines impressive dining options, entertainment, relaxation spaces and plenty of places to enjoy those all-important sea views. Whether you’re someone who likes to keep busy from breakfast until bedtime or would happily spend an afternoon with a drink and a view, there’s plenty to catch your attention.

But what makes this particular ship stand out? Let’s take a closer look at life on board.

First Impressions: A Ship With Plenty Going On

Majestic Princess is a sizeable ship, carrying up to 3,560 guests across 19 decks. It first welcomed passengers in 2017 and has a gross tonnage of 143,700.

That gives you an idea of the scale of the experience. There’s room for a wide choice of restaurants, lounges, entertainment venues, pools and relaxation areas, so you’re certainly not short of places to explore.

One of the areas I’d be keen to spend time in is the Piazza. Inspired by European squares, it’s a central meeting place with shops, live music, street performers and places to sit and watch the world go by. It’s the sort of space that can easily become a favourite meeting point during a cruise.

And if you enjoy a little people-watching with your coffee, it’s difficult to imagine running out of entertainment here.

Dining on Majestic Princess: Come Hungry!

One thing that immediately stands out about Majestic Princess is the variety of dining available. There’s a mixture of included dining options, casual places to grab something tasty and speciality restaurants for when you fancy making a little more of an occasion.

The International Café is a particularly appealing option. Located in the Piazza, it operates around the clock, serving a selection of sandwiches, pastries, salads and other small bites. Ideal if you fancy something outside the usual breakfast, lunch and dinner routine.

Then there’s Alfredo’s Pizzeria, where freshly prepared Neapolitan-style pizzas take centre stage. If pizza and a sea view sound like a perfectly reasonable way to spend an afternoon, you’re probably going to get along just fine.

For something a little more substantial, the World Fresh Marketplace offers buffet dining, while the main dining rooms provide a more traditional restaurant experience.

Fancy treating yourself? Crown Grill is the ship’s signature steakhouse, while Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria offers Italian-inspired dining. These speciality restaurants carry an additional charge, so it’s worth checking what’s included in your chosen fare.

There’s also the opportunity to enjoy afternoon tea, which is a rather lovely excuse to put your feet up and enjoy a little indulgence.

Bars, Cocktails and Places to Unwind

A good cruise needs somewhere to enjoy a drink, and Majestic Princess has several options.

Bellini’s is a stylish spot overlooking the Piazza, making it a good choice for a pre-dinner drink. The Crown Grill Bar is another option for cocktails, wines and classic favourites.

You’ll also find Vines Wine Bar, alongside other lounges and bars around the ship.

My pick would be to find a comfortable seat, order something refreshing and enjoy the atmosphere. There’s no need to turn every minute of a cruise into a military operation. Sometimes the best holiday moments are the ones where absolutely nothing is planned.

Entertainment: What Happens After Dinner?

If you think cruise entertainment means a quick show followed by an early night, Majestic Princess has other ideas.

The Princess Theater hosts large-scale productions, featuring performers, music and stage shows. It’s a good option for an evening when you fancy getting dressed up and enjoying something a little different.

Princess Live! provides another entertainment space, with interactive events and performances, while the Vista Lounge offers another place to enjoy onboard entertainment.

Then there’s Movies Under the Stars. Imagine settling into a lounger, watching a film on the open deck and enjoying some popcorn with the evening sea air around you.

There are also live music venues, dancing, comedy and the casino for guests who fancy trying their luck.

In other words, you don’t have to head back to your cabin just because dinner is finished.

Pools, Spa and a Little Time for Yourself

Not every holiday needs to be packed with activities. Sometimes you just want a sun lounger, a good book and absolutely no one asking you to do anything.

Majestic Princess has several swimming pools and whirlpool spas, giving guests plenty of opportunities to relax between ports.

One of the ship’s standout features is the Hollywood Pool Club. This covered pool area offers a stylish setting with comfortable loungers and hot tubs, making it an appealing place to unwind whatever the weather is doing outside.

If relaxation is high on your priority list, the Lotus Spa is another place worth exploring. Treatments include massages, facials and other spa experiences.

There’s also The Enclave, a thermal suite featuring a hydrotherapy pool, heated stone beds, steam rooms and other relaxation facilities. Access and charges may vary, so check the details before booking.

For those who prefer to keep moving, the fitness centre offers exercise equipment and classes.

What About Families?

Majestic Princess isn’t just aimed at couples or adults looking for a relaxing escape. Families are catered for too.

The ship has dedicated spaces for different age groups, including activities for younger children, older children and teenagers.

The children’s programmes include creative activities, games, competitions and themed events, while the teen space offers opportunities to socialise and take part in activities with other young passengers.

There are also family-friendly accommodation options, including connecting staterooms and larger suites.

Of course, the suitability of any cruise depends on the ages and interests of your family, but it’s good to see that younger guests have dedicated places to enjoy themselves rather than relying entirely on the swimming pool to keep them entertained.

What Are the Cabins Like?

After a busy day exploring the ship or discovering a new destination, you’ll want somewhere comfortable to return to.

Majestic Princess offers several accommodation categories, including interior, oceanview, balcony, mini-suite and suite options.

An interior cabin can be a sensible choice if you’re planning to spend most of your time enjoying the ship and destinations. An oceanview gives you natural light and a view outside, while a balcony cabin gives you your own private outdoor space.

If having a little extra room is important, the mini-suites and suites offer more space and additional features.

Personally, I’d be tempted by a balcony cabin. There’s something appealing about being able to step outside first thing in the morning, enjoy the view and see where the day is taking you.

Just remember that cabin layouts, facilities and inclusions can vary depending on the category you choose.

Where Does Majestic Princess Sail?

One of the appealing things about Majestic Princess is the range of itineraries associated with the ship.

Depending on the sailing schedule, you may find voyages exploring destinations in Europe, the Caribbean and other parts of the world.

That means the ship can appeal to different types of cruise holidaymaker. You might be looking for a sunshine escape, a longer European adventure or a voyage where the destinations are just as important as the time spent on board.

If you’re particularly interested in the cruise line itself, take a look at our Princess Cruises holidays to explore more of the fleet.

Is Majestic Princess Worth Considering?

If you’re looking for a cruise ship with a good balance of dining, entertainment, relaxation and activities, Majestic Princess certainly deserves a place on your shortlist.

Its range of restaurants means you’re not limited to the same dining experience every evening. The entertainment programme gives you plenty to choose from after dark, while the pools, spa and lounges provide space to slow things down.

It’s also a ship that offers options for couples, families and people travelling with friends.

What I particularly like about the overall offering is the choice. You can make your cruise as active or as relaxed as you want. Spend the day exploring the ship, head ashore to discover somewhere new or find a comfortable spot and enjoy doing very little.

And let’s be honest, that last option is rather underrated.
