Charlene, Cruise Specialist, Reviews Costa Cruises Diadema

So… I finally did it. I boarded my very first cruise, and let me tell you – Costa Cruises Costa Diadema did not disappoint. Whether you’re a cruising newbie like I was or a seasoned wave-chaser looking for a new adventure, here’s what it’s really like on board the Costa Diadema. Spoiler alert: there was pizza, cocktails, behind-the-scenes exclusives, and a sunset bar that deserves its own standing ovation.
Day 1 – All Aboard Costa Cruises Diadema

Check-in was smoother than a piña colada. We rocked up at 2pm (the time we were given), handed over our luggage to the friendly crew, and breezed through passport checks, security, and onto the ship with zero faff. Cruise Nation – you weren’t lying when you said Costa Cruises is stress-free!
Our first port of call on board? Corona Blu buffet. With everything from piping hot pizzas to crisp salads, fresh fruit, and comforting pastas, it was buffet bliss. I opted for a classic combo: pizza and salad. Fresh, tasty, and the perfect start to the trip.
Post-lunch, we did the obligatory “Where are we again?” walk around the ship. A few detours later (and a game of “Are We Lost Again?”), we found our beautiful balcony cabin. Spacious double bed, comfy sofa, well-equipped bathroom, and a balcony with table and chairs. Bonus: USB ports right by the bed. It’s the little things.
Dinner at Adularia Restaurant was next-level. I ordered the beef fillet with mash (chef’s kiss!) – the food quality was incredible and the service so seamless, I didn’t even notice we’d set sail!
Cocktail hour? Yes please. We headed to Grand Bar Orlov, which became a favourite thanks to its epic drink menu – think branded international cocktails, all included in the drinks package we purchased. It was well worth it. Oh, and the glass elevators with marble floors and gold trim? Total glam.
Day 2 – Rotterdam Wonders

Docking in Rotterdam, we skipped the excursions (although cheese and wine tasting was very tempting!) and hopped in a taxi to the city centre – just 10 minutes from the port. Want to walk? It’s a scenic 25-minute stroll.
We explored the iconic Markthal, a food lover’s dream with over 100 global food spots. I couldn’t resist the Korean chicken skewers and a Danish all-butter pastry – both absolutely worth the calories. Next stop: the famous cube houses. Unique, bold, and so very Rotterdam.
Day 3 – Behind the Scenes on Costa Cruises Diadema

A full day at sea meant time to explore the magic below deck. We joined an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, where we saw everything that goes on to make the cruise line run so efficiently and provide customers with the best experience — from the ship’s kitchens where succulent food is prepared, to the crew areas, and most importantly, the Captain’s deck.
This was hands down a highlight for me as a first-time cruiser – a deep dive into how the ship operates and copes with weather. Not just educational, but also reassuring (especially if you’re a nervous cruiser like I was!).
Lunch? Oh, just a full-blown experience at the Teppanyaki restaurant. Singing chefs flipping prawns mid-air while you’re sipping sake? Pure joy. Everything was fresh, sizzling, and full of flavour – the chicken and rice combo was my fave.
The evening ended at the Heineken Bar – great vibes, live music, and (you guessed it) more cocktails!
Day 4 – Sea Day on Costa Cruises Diadema

Another sea day and a chance to see what the ship had to offer. Each morning, a handy daily planner lands in your cabin listing all the activities on board – from pop quizzes to dance classes (great fun to watch even if you’re not joining in!).
We wandered around Lido Belvedere on Deck 10, a buzzing social spot with fab views and great energy. But the real star of the day? Sunset drinks at the Aperol Spritz Bar. Picture this: golden hour on the open sea, chilled music, stylish seating, and cocktails that taste like summer. It felt exclusive, relaxed, and oh-so-worthy of an Instagram story.
Evenings on board were showtime – literally. We caught a Beatles tribute act and a Teddy Swims-style show – both absolutely brilliant. Costa really knows how to entertain.
Day 5 – Disembark at Kiel

All good things must come to an end, and disembarkation at Kiel was just as smooth as boarding. We kept our cases with us as we had an early transfer, joined the 8am line, and were off the ship by 8:45am. Taxis were readily available, but if you’re a planner, pre-booking is an option too.
Final Thoughts – Would I Cruise with Costa Cruises Again?

In. A. Heartbeat.
Costa Diadema blew away my expectations – from the world-class dining and fantastic entertainment to the friendly crew and beautiful ship interiors. Whether you’re cruising for the first time or the fiftieth, this ship makes it feel special.
Top Tips for First-Time Cruisers:
